At Avante, the Edad&Vida Foundation will analyse how to regulate the quality of services

Publication date: June 2008

A single basic accreditation system which guarantees access to welfare services all over Spain, set forth in the Dependency Law, in equal conditions and with comparable levels of quality, notwithstanding the competencies of the Autonomous Communities. This will be one of the main demands of the dependency sector’s companies and organisations which will meet up in Avante on the 5th of June in a workshop organised by the Edad&Vida Foundation in collaboration with Applus+ and the Catalan Generalitat’s Departament d’Acció Social i Ciutadania.

The workshop will spotlight the points of view of different agents in the dependency sector, academics and experts, with the aim of defining the cohesion of an accreditation system to guarantee the quality of welfare services, which contribute to making advances in the needs of elderly people.

Various round tables will analyse the current situation of accreditation of welfare services in different Autonomous Communities and the implementation of the Dependency Law, accreditation models applied in other countries, such as the United States, Canada, Japan and Germany, and quality assessment systems in residences, day centres, dependency welfare services and teleassistance services. Representatives from public administration and the business sector and experts in quality and accreditation will be participating.

The Edad&Vida Foundation will present recommendations from their study “Calidad y Acreditación para las entidades prestadoras de servicios de atención a las personas mayores en situación de dependencia” (“Quality and Accreditation for providers of welfare services to elderly, dependent people). The main aim is to offer guidelines for establishing or improving a quality model for welfare service providers, and for public administrations to create a transparent accreditation system which guarantees a homogeneous level of quality. According to the president of the Edad&Vida Foundation, Higinio Raventós, “quality management tools are essential to regulate the welfare sector with the aim of contributing to dignifying it and improving its social recognition”.

The Catalan Generalitat’s Consellera d’Acció Social i Ciutadania, Carme Capdevila, will give the closing address.
