Publication date: 18th of April 2008

The Princess of Asturias has accepted the honorary presidency of the first Personal Autonomy and Quality of Life Show, which will be held from the 5th to 7th of June in Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via exhibition centre. This decision constitutes an important endorsement of this new project which brings together several business sectors related to disabilities, dependency and improving quality of life

According to the president of Fira de Barcelona’s Administrative Board, Josep Lluís Bonet, “acceptance of this honorary position by the Princess of Asturias is a reason for pride and yet another example of the Royal Family’s interest in many of our shows and the activity of the trade fair institution”. The president of Avante, Higinio Raventós, also considers it “an enormous satisfaction and honour to have the support of Doña Letizia in revealing, through the show, the challenge for companies and public institutions to detect and respond to the new social needs related to personal autonomy and quality of life of the aging population”.

Exhibits at Avante 2008 will be divided into five major areas: technical solutions; specialised care and services; home and family; urban accessibility and mobility; and life, society and company.  The main aim is to showcase technologies, products and services which contribute to improving autonomy and quality of life The organisers expect about 180 represented companies and an audience of 12,000 visitors.

Avante will also host interesting workshops and conferences; an R+D+I exhibition area with the latest technological innovations at the service of disability and dependency; and the exhibition of the Hogar Avante, a house which is adapted and equipped with products and systems to make life easier.
