Avante 2010 opts for technological innovation and internationalism

Publication date: 17th November, 2009

After a good start with around 9,000 visitors, Avante is preparing its second show, which will be held from the 2nd to the 4th of June 2010 in Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition centre. The show aims to increase its internationalism and become established as one of Europe’s benchmark events presenting the latest technological advances for improving the autonomy and quality of life of dependent and disabled people.

The multi-sector show, Avante, will again show professionals and end users how new technologies can contribute to improving the quality of life of dependent and disabled people and families, as well as their applications in socio-health.

For this reason, “in Avante 2010 we wish to promote innovation, by concentrating the latest advances in the field of support technologies, accessibility, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and universal design, as well as the best European R&D&I projects”, the show’s director, Josep Antoni Llopart, explained. In this way, he adds, “we hope to position Avante as a reference platform in Europe which integrates all the key agents involved in the development of new and more sustainable technologies aimed at caring for the dependent and disabled”.

One of the main objectives of this next show is to attract a larger number of international companies and professionals, by increasing promotional actions abroad through cooperation agreements with the leading international business associations, such as the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE); Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA); Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA); Rehabilitation Engineering Society of Japan (RESJA); Japan Assistive Products Association (JASPA); y Australian Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Association (ARATA).

Integral solutions and debate
Exhibits at Avante will again be divided into five major sectors: technology solutions and innovations; care and specialist services; home and family, with products and equipment for improving autonomy, safety and quality of life at home; urban accessibility and mobility, with proposals to create unlimited, accessible and more comfortable surroundings; and life, society and company, with bodies which promote equal opportunities.

One of the main attractions will, once again, be the technological innovation and Networking space, the R&D&I Area, in which companies, technological development centres and universities will present products and prototypes for use in health, welfare and domestic care.

In this way, “Avante will provide visitors with a complete view of existing solutions and the latest the sector has to offer to help make life easier, more active and participative”, said Llopart.

The show will also host important workshops and congresses open to health and assistive care professionals, scientists, socio-health personnel, administration officers, investors and other groups involved in dependence and disability. Another feature will be the exhibition, Hogar Avante, a house adapted and equipped with products and systems which make life easier for users.
