Fira de Barcelona launches Avante 2008, the first personal autonomy and quality of living exhibition

Publication date: 7 July 2007

Fira de Barcelona launches the Avante exhibition, embracing all sectors relating to disability, dependency and quality of life in general, and presents technology, products and services that ease daily life and serve to adapt surroundings to individuals' needs. It is addressed at professionals and users, and will be held biannually, the first edition being at the Venue Gran Via from 5 to 7 June 2008.

According to Avante's director, Josep Antoni Llopart, "the exhibition is differentiated by its multi-sector focus and its targeting of global demand. Our public is made up of institutions, businesses, social healthcare professionals, the disabled, the elderly and, above all, anyone who is interested in discovering new products and services that will make their life more comfortable and socially more involved."

Avante foresees the presence at its first edition of some 180 exhibitor businesses occupying a net 7,000 m2 at hall number 1 of the Venue Gran Via and expects visitor numbers of over 12,000.

The commercial floorspace will be structured into five areas: technical solutions; home and family; specialist assistance and services; urban accessibility and mobility, and life, society and business. Healthcare technology, special furnishings, domotics, tele-assistance, "design for all" products, residential centres, financial institutions, vehicles, accessible equipment and new technologies, socially responsible foundations and companies, as well as tourism and leisure services will, among other sectors, make up the wide-ranging offering of the exhibition.

Avante will, moreover, provide a forum for training and scientific knowledge exchange for professionals from a variety of disciplines. The exhibition will have an I+D Area, open to healthcare technology businesses, research centres and Healthcare and Assistance professionals, where projects and advances that will enhance personal autonomy and quality of living will be presented. Various conferences for professionals will also be held and there will be a presentation of a prototype for the "accessible home".

The Avante exhibition -which enjoys the support of significant bodies and associations from the sector- will contribute to the training of professionals and the promotion of technological innovation, the standardisation of products and services, the removal of barriers and also to equal opportunities. At the same time, the introduction of the Law on Dependency has created an increased interest and social need for products and service that enhance personal autonomy and quality of living.
